Make yourself and children safe and let the gardai do their thing, hopefully they'll move him on until the housing is sorted. Best of luck, keep in contact with family or even just on here. I'm sure you are feeling all over the place but don't be afraid to ask for help, even if it's just for someone to keep you company.

Seems bizarre that the gardai wouldn't have the power to arrest someone who committed an assault with or without a protection order! Op I hope you are ok

They can arrest someone for assault etc but the person is most likely not going to be kept in custody and therefore can return to their own home, unless a barring order is in place.
Often they won't/can't arrest as the victim won't press charges, and also it can be seen as a he says/she says scenario that they simply don't want to get involved in.

Hope the guards were able to get him out. Or at least frighten him or show him you're serious so he'll go of his own accord

They took him as he was in breech of the order as he threatened me. He was in court this morning. I haven't heard anything. I'm a nervous wreck here
