DH has given up on life
Re: DH has given up on life
One other thought, you mentioned a son. It might be worth checking does he have someone he can talk to outside the family. And maybe consider talking to him (depending on age). He must see his dad, feel the tension but he may not understand what’s going on or why it can’t be easily fixed.
Re: DH has given up on life
I would definitely confide in a friend but have an agreement he is not to repeate anything, he could help with a job or something.
Men is very complex, I know your affraid to break his trust but he needs intervention on all levels and sometimes it takes a village, so don't rule it out.
Definitely contact gp for u and him .

Can he mind the children/look after the house while you look for a job?
Being financially independent would be my first priority along with my own mental health.

I think it is a bit worrying that he has health insurance, but you don't. Can you get health insurance too?
Re: DH has given up on life
I’ve no real advice but trying again to persuade him to see a counsellor
But most importantly your needs are very important too
