I wonder what would happen if you told her you wanted a written retraction or your huband would consider pursuing a libel suit _ as that is the only way to protect your husband from any future claim by her. In return for the retraction you would give a written statement agreeing not to pursue her for defamation. This course of action would likely end the relationship but really do you want to be friends with someone who could ruin your husband's reputation with a throwaway comment.
She is unlikely to admit to lying but I think lying or not she would agree to write a retraction if she could be convinced she might have to defend her position in a High Court. If she absolutely refused to retract I guess I would start to wonder who is the liar. It does appear you have made your mind up about that already.
