If she wants to go I'd let her, can't see any reason not to. Can't imagine getting her to stay home and watch it with us when she'd rather be with all her friends.

Another who'd let her go if she wanted but I can also see your husbands POV.
I don't particularly like the show but I like the tradition of it. The children love it and we all sit together, eat treats and for us it's like the official start to Christmas. Same as we did as a family when I was a child.

I'd miss one of my kids if they were gone as we all love toy show night. I don't actually think it's a good idea for a party either-watching the toy show with your friends wouldn't be top of the list for a 9 year old imo, its more of a late night lay on sofa asleep with parents thing. What they are probably going to do is be cranky and run themselves ragged late at night and be wrecked next day.
After saying all that I wouldn't think of stopping them from going.

It is a family night in our house with goodies and the fire on...think I would miss our little fella

We have never watched the toy show, ever.
Sounds like a lovely evening for her, it’s the weekend, 11.30 isn’t that late.

It’s a once off for a 9 year old, the teens are ferried around all week here!amber wrote:No way would my 9 year old be out at 11:30 and need collecting.
All the people complaining about collecting teens would have no problem collecting a 9 year old.
Baffling!

Its a birthday party. Its not every weekend. I get that people have a big family night for the Toy Show. I find it very boring & dont really watch it. My current 9yo does watch it all so that's why I would have no issue with it.

I’d have absolutely no issue with it . In fact it’s given me an idea to do likewise!
As to family event- these things often go away anyway with time . Like trick r treating or trips to panto etc, things we used do as a family are now fun outings with friends. I’d happily let her go especially if I knew she was going to have great fun.

This needs a LLTS poll!
I always thought that everybody else loved it and we were the odds ones out but maybe everyone dreads it equally.

We always watch it together, well DH doesn't but myself and the kids do. I think the party thing sounds great. I'm not keen on sleepovers so collecting at 11.30 + is a good compromise.
I am happy to drop and collect my teen whenever, 9yos are no different.

My dd would love it too. A gang of kids watching it together would be great fun I imagine. Way more fun than watching it with the parents. No issue with the lateness as a once-off-these special kinds of treats are the things we remember as adults.
