It is EXTREMELY painful. Get it seen too, no matter what people say. I broke my toe a couple of decades ago and still have pain occasionally, like an old woman when it rains/damp! I'm told it is Post-Traumatic Arthritis. I was an idiot not to get it seen too, strapped and whatever might have helped back then because I walked on it and think I may have compounded the injury.
